Valdis Dombrovskis remains as European commission and will not sit in Parliament
Valdis Dombrovsksis, Commission Vice-President for the euro and social dialogue, announced on 11th June that he had been chosen by the Latvian government for be the member for his country in the next European Commission. The decision was taken by the coalition in power in Latvia, to which V. Dombrovsksis’ party New Unity (Jaunā Vienotība) belongs, which is affiliated to the European People’s Party (EPP). V. Dombrovskis, who was elected as an MEP in the May elections therefore remains in place through until the end of the Juncker Commission’s mandate. His seat in the European Parliament will go to another member of the list presented by his party.
This is the second commissioner, after Mariya Gabriel from Bulgaria, responsible for the digital economy, to choose to retain his job after being elected as an MEP.
